Having lost my connections in China through

the War, I am now at the point of establishing myself under the

name of Alfred Richter in Canton as well as in Hongkong, and I

take the liberty to ask you to be kind enough to register my name

and advise your Consuls in Canton as well as in Hongkong according-

-ly. Kindly let me have the amount of money for cabling expenses,

which will be sent to you on receipt of your advice.

I might mention that I am a naturalised German

(American), having received my second papers on September 4th., 1901, which I am glad to send you or submit them for inspection to anybody in New York, whenever you inform me to do so.

It is my idea that now is the time to open American firms in the Far East, and I hope that you will have the

kindness to assist me in the matter.

Kindly let this have your early attention as I

am trying to engage my representatives in the Far East. You will no doubt be aware of the fact that American business with China is so to say at a stand-still, and that immediate action ought to

be taken in the matter.

An early reply will greatly oblige,

Yours etc.,

(Sd.) Alfred Richter.
